Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains boundaries of wilderness areas that are within the Rio Puerco watershed basin. The boundary lines of some areas extend outside of the basin perimeter, and the portions of the boundaries outside of the basin are represented. Processing software was ARC/INFO 7.1.1.

Description of Parent Data Set: It is in a vector digital data structure, digitized from a USGS 1:500,000 scale mylar of New Mexico. The source software used was ARC/INFO 5.0.1 and the conversion software ARC/INFO 7.0.3.

Purpose:
This data set was created to digitally represent the boundaries of wilderness areas within the Rio Puerco basin.

Intended use of data: These data are typically used as base data for other coverages, and should be used at scales of 1:500,000 and smaller. The data are intended for use as a general reference to the extent and boundaries of the wilderness areas.

Supplemental_Information:
Data completeness reflect the content of the source graphic. Only wilderness area boundaries were extracted from the source graphic. The data contains all lines representing these boundaries.

Accuracy of these digital data (if not digitally revised), is based upon the use of source graphics which are compiled to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. NMAS horizontal accuracy requires that at least 90 percent of points tested are within 1/50th of an inch of the true position. Comparison to the graphic source is used as control to asses digital positional accuracy. Cartographic offsets may be present on the graphic source, due to scale and legibilty constraints. Process_Description:
The data set was copied from cd-rom media (RGIS 1996) onto a Sun Unix server, where it was processed with ARC/INFO 7.1.1. The boundary of any area that 'passed through' the perimeter of the Rio Puerco basin was selected (using the reselect command with the passthru parameter). This selected set was written out to a new coverage, and reprojected from the Lambert Conformal Conic projection into Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates.
