Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains boundaries for the 1:100,000 scale BLM PLSS maps of New Mexico that have any portion within the Rio Puerco watershed. The boundary lines of some areas extend outside of the basin perimeter, and the portions of the boundaries outside of the basin are represented. Processing software was ARC/INFO 7.1.1.

Description of Parent Data Set: It is in a vector digital data structure, digitized from BLM 1:100,000 scale maps of the state of New Mexico. The source software used was MOSS and the conversion software ARC/INFO 7.0.3.

Purpose:
This data set was created to digitally represent a coverage of the 1:100,000 scale BLM PLSS maps of the Rio Puerco basin.

Intended use of data: These data are intended to be used as base reference to the individual 1:100,000 scale BLM PLSS maps. The data are intended for use as a general reference to the extent and boundaries of the BLM PLSS maps.

Supplemental_Information:
Data completeness reflect the content of the source graphic. Within these coverages only the individual BLM PLSS survey units were extracted. These data contains all lines and polygons representing Public Land Survey and county lines as applicable.

Accuracy of these digital data (if not digitally revised), is based upon the use of source graphics which are compiled to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. NMAS horizontal accuracy requires that at least 90 percent of points tested are within 1/50th of an inch of the true position. Comparison to the graphic source is used as control to asses digital positional accuracy. Cartographic offsets may be present on the graphic source, due to scale and legibilty constraints. The data set was copied from cd-rom media (RGIS 1996) onto a Sun Unix server, where it was processed with ARC/INFO 7.1.1. The boundary of any area that 'passed through' the perimeter of the Rio Puerco basin was selected (using the reselect command with the passthru parameter). This selected set was written out to a new coverage, and reprojected from the Lambert Conformal Conic projection into Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates.

The 'data' attribute contains section and township & range identifiers for land parcels that have been surveyed. For parcels that haven't been surveyed, the name of the government agency or private individual or group with rights to the land is given.

The 'non_surv' attribute contains information about parcels of land that have not been surveyed in the PLSS. Any descriptions in this attribute indicate the government agency or other entity that has the rights to the land. Blank fields indicate that the parcel has been surveyed.

The 'section' attribute contains the section number of a parcel of land within a particular Township.

The 'range' attribute contains the range number of a parcel of land based upon the U.S. Township and Range System.

The 'township' attribute contains the township number of a parcel of land based upon the U.S. Township and Range System.

Some attributes in <covername>.aat, including fnode#, tnode#, lpoly#, rpoly#, length, cover#, and cover-id are included in the coverage by default. Please refer to ESRI's ARC/INFO documentation for more detailed descriptions of these attributes.
