Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains boundaries of the New Mexico Forestry and Resource Conservation areas, plus the names of the district offices, that have any portion within the Rio Puerco watershed. The boundary lines of some areas extend outside of the basin perimeter, and the portions of the boundaries outside of the basin are represented. Processing software was ARC/INFO 7.1.1.

Description of Parent Data Set: It is in a vector digital data structure, digitized from a USGS 1:500,000 scale mylar of the state of New Mexico. The source software used was ARC/INFO 5.0.1 and the conversion software ARC/INFO 7.0.3.

Purpose:
The Forestry & Resources Conservation Boundaries & District Offices data set was developed to digitally represent boundaries of these areas in New Mexico.

Intended use of data: These data are intended to be used as general reference as to the boundaries and extent of the Forestry and Resource Conservation areas. The data should be used at scales of 1:500,000 and smaller.

Supplemental_Information:
NM Energy, Minerals, & Natural Resources Department was the original data source. Data completeness reflect the content of the source graphic. Only the Forestry and Resource Conservation area boundaries were extracted from the source graphic. The data contains all lines representing these boundaries, plus the names of these areas.

Accuracy of these digital data (if not digitally revised), is based upon the use of source graphics which are compiled to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. NMAS horizontal accuracy requires that at least 90 percent of points tested are within 1/50th of an inch of the true position. Comparison to the graphic source is used as control to asses digital positional accuracy. Cartographic offsets may be present on the graphic source, due to scale and legibilty constraints. Process_Description:
The data set was copied from cd-rom media (RGIS 1996) onto a Sun Unix server, where it was processed with ARC/INFO 7.1.1. The boundary of any area that 'passed through' the perimeter of the Rio Puerco basin was selected (using the reselect command with the passthru parameter). This selected set was written out to a new coverage, and reprojected from the Lambert Conformal Conic projection into Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates.
