(Darton 1599)
Two views of Cerro Verde, an 'old volcanic cone 15 miles SSW of Suwanee' (near
Correo) looking northwest, September 19, 1917.
Retakes of Darton 1599 and 1600; 8/5/98. In both views, the vegetation density
appears similar, except that Darton's views are taken later in the year when the
tall parts of the grasses seem to have been grazed down. Many Juniper trees
have been established on the flanks of Cerro Verde since 1917, and the clouds
have become much more pretty. Modern vegetation consists of snakeweed, Alkali
Sacaton, and Gramma grass.
