- Sites found in upper reaches of tributaries (same as Paleoindian)

Middle Archaic
- 5000-3800 BP (3000-1800 BC )
- Hunter-gatherers
- Sites increase in number
- Continue to be located in upper reaches of tributaries

Middle Archaic Site Locations

Late Archaic

3800-1800 BP (1800 BC-200 AD)
Transition to horticulture and sedention in much of U.S.; Zea mays probably introduced
Sites continue as earlier, but show concentration in Middle Rio Puerco Valley

Late Archaic Site Locations

Unspecified Archaic
- 7500-1800 BP (5500 BC-200 AD)
- Catch all for Archaic sites that are not well differentiated
- Sites cluster in the Middle Rio Puerco Valley and in the Torreon Wash drainage
