Mapping Surficial Deposits

Preliminary mapping and some radiocarbon ages suggest that Bear Lake has expanded and contracted several times in the last 10,000 years and that it sometimes overflowed northward through channels on the west side of the valley. During this time, Bear River migrated northward through the intervening marsh to its present position. Some of these changes may be related to climate change and others may have been caused by faulting or tilting of the valley floor.
