GLAD800 Core

In the late summer of 2000, a new kind of corer was tested at Bear Lake. The Global Lake Drilling - 800 Meters rig (GLAD800) is portable enough to be transported to fairly remote, road-accessible sites and can retrieve up to 800 meters of core from sediments of different hardness. Successful test runs on Great Salt Lake and Bear Lake were completed in summer and fall 2000. The GLAD800 corer is scheduled to core West Hawk Lake, Manitoba, Canada; Englebright Reservoir, California; the world's largest high elevation lake, Titicaca, in Bolivia and Peru; and Lake Malawi, Africa.
